Wabash College Athletics Hall of Fame
An Omaha Indian from Decatur, NB., and a Carlisle Indian School and University of Illinois graduate, Cayou is credited for giving the school its nickname, "Little Giants," after remarking his team played like little giants following a close loss in 1904.
A motivational genius, he extolled in his players the Indian virtues of pride, courage and indifference. In football, he compiled a 20-12-1 record. His track teams won two Little State titles and one Big State title and in his only year as baseball coach, he finished at 18-5.
Cayou died May 7, 1948, on an Indian reservation in Claremore, OK.
