Wabash College Athletics Hall of Fame
Presented by Hunter Jones '20
Grant Michael Comer, your Wabash swimming coach, Gail Pebworth, said you “truly exemplified the ideal of the student-athlete who engaged in the pursuit of excellence in all aspects of your life.” And we certainly would never argue with a Hall of Fame coach!
A review of your accomplishments is simply awe-inspiring. You were a four-time letterman, two-time captain, and three-time Most Valuable Swimmer. To this day, you hold the record as the College’s all-time high-point swimmer with over 1,790 points in your career.
You were an excellent butterflier, taking sixth place the 1996 NCAA Championships in the 200-yard fly to earn All-America honors. You were also a versatile swimmer and became an All-American in the 400-yard individual medley. Your school record time in that event — 4:07.57 — stood as the all-time record in the most grueling event for 18 years.
You set the tone for your teammates, earning the Mental Attitude Award as a freshman and again as a senior. And you were an even stronger student. You made the College Swimming Coaches Association’s All-Academic Team all four years you swam at Wabash, and you posted a perfect 4.0 GPA in 1995-96 — the highest of any swimmer to qualify for nationals. You were inducted into Phi Beta Kappa and earned the prestigious NCAA Postgraduate Scholarship.
It is with tremendous pride that I salute your athletic and academic accomplishments, and on behalf of the National Association of Wabash Men, induct you into the Wabash College Athletics Hall of Fame.
